On August 12,2018 the Heads of State and Government of the Caspian littoral States (President of Azerbaijan llham Aliev, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, then President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov) meet in Aktau, Kazakhstan for the 5th Caspian Summit At the conclusion of the meeting, the Leaders signed a "Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea" to finally bring to an agreed conclusion a 22-year long process of disputes and negotiations over their respective sovereignty and economic claims on the Caspian Sea's waters and natural resources. What follows is the official English text of the Convention (main sections only).
