As the Ukraine conflict enters its 6th year and Russian occupation of ethnic enclaves in Georgia persists, NATO is strengthening its partnership with the two nations. Meanwhile, the EU maintains its sanctions against Russia, coupling them with calls on Moscow for cooperation in specific areas. As conflict resolutions seem out of sight, the time has come to rethink possible solutions, geopolitical ambitions and the Western approach to Russia regarding Ukraine and Georgia. On 4 April, NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, announced the Alliance's decision to deepen its partnership with Georgia and Ukraine through "exercises in the Black Sea region, joint work to counter hybrid warfare, efforts to share more air traffic radar data," regular maritime patrols and air policing with NATO fighters deployed to Romania and Bulgaria. As part of the Black Sea activities, the Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) - with the Bulgarian, Romanian and Turkish navies and two USN 6th Fleet destroyers - conducted exercises.
