As modern military logistics practice continues to evolve, so, too, does the debate on its shape and nature. Although the sight of truck convoys dozens of kilometres long wending their way across deserts, through densely forested steppe or over snow-filled mountain passes is no longer as common as it was in earlier times, wheeled transport is still the predominant method of moving essential supplies, ammunition, fuel and water from the bridgehead or port of disembarkation to the front line. The requirement for efficient, competent and - above all - survivable trucks is considerable and supports the commercial activities of a host of manufacturers whose names have become familiar to military professionals and observers alike: Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV), Iveco Defence Vehicles, Oshkosh Corporation, Mack Defense, Nexter, Mercedes-Benz, Tatra - the list is practically endless.
