The introduction of artificial intelligence technology into battle management systems could help decision-making, provided risks and benefits are understood. "Introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data technologies in military capabilities [...] is considered a paradigm change, a new revolution in military affairs," argue Gilles Desclaux and Baptiste Prebot in their 2018 paper Command and Control in the Autonomy and Digital Era. Dr Prebot is an expert in cognitive engineering at France's Ecole Nationale Superieure de Cognitique (Higher National School of Cognitive Engineering), near Bordeaux, while Desclaux is a retired general and military advisor.
