Dairy UK has agreed with the farming unions a voluntary code of best practice on contractual relationships between producers (dairy farmers) and purchasers (milk buyers, whether private dairies or co-ops). The code is voluntary. It is up to individual purchasers to decide whether they wish to adopt the code, to what extent and by what means. Competition law does not permit Dairy UK or any trade body to impose contractual requirements on purchasers.
