Dairy farmers need to strengthen their position in the dairy supply chain, according to a group representing UK producers that visited Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland recently. The group, which included officeholders and staff of NFU Scotland, NFU England and Wales and the Ulster Farmers' Union, visited Rowan Glen, Scotland's largest yogurt factory at Newton Stewart and the SAC's Centre for Dairy Excellence at Crichton Royal Farm, Dumfries. Commenting afterwards, NFUS vice-president Stewart Wood said: "The medium-term outlook for the dairy market is positive and dairy farmers can look ahead to more optimistic times. However, this must not breed complacency.
