However, a recent London Economies' Report that was commissioned by Defra called for the removal of the so-called "National top-up" for the EU School Milk Subsidy Scheme and suggested that the UK government should discuss the dismantling of the current European scheme with the Brussels-based European Commission. Dairy UK was pleased to see the government announce its continuing support for the EU Scheme and the "topping-up" of EU funds to maintain the provision of milk to 5-11 year old pupils in primary schools. Dairy UK processing manager Edmund Proffitt explains why below.
