Just when you thought that with the Pollution, Prevention & Control (PPC) applications completed and compliance with the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) becoming second nature, you'd seen the back of major environmental legislation for a couple of years, the Nitrates Directive rears its ugly head and threatens to affect our waste water processing operations. If you have full or partial effluent treatment on site, you are also likely to have a relationship with a waste contractor (probably a farmer), who takes away your effluent sludge (waste solids) and spreads it on agricultural land to improve the soil - and you'll have a waste exemption licence to show you're doing it correctly.
