At the international forum of the Adam Smith Institute in Moscow in 2005, it was suggested that the Russian milk sector was the most self-sufficient of all the country's food groups and it was felt that the potential capacity of the market was large and far from being saturated. Local dairies were still able to produce milk, yogurts and cheeses competitively and only a few international companies had invested in the area.
