Hose maintenance is unlikely to be the first thing to leap into the psyche of plant or maintenance engineers in dairy processing, unless, of course, they have already run foul of a catastrophic failure. But any breakdown in this essential part of many dairy plants could lead to expensive repairs, downtime and a threat of food contamination, warns John Quilter. "Too little attention is paid by processors to fundamental, yet simple equipment that holds the key to plant safety, efficiency and avoidance of lost opportunity costs," said Mr Quilter, of hose specialist FlexRite Chemgiene.
