Harper Adams undergraduate Edward Sutton, from Crewe, has been named RABDF/Barclays Dairy Student of the Year. At an award ceremony in London last month, Edward was named top student after beating three others in one of the closest competitions for years. Around 17 students were nominated and a preliminary round of interviews took place earlier in the month at Warwickshire College of Agriculture, where a panel of judges interviewed the entrants for a hypothetical herd manager's position. A second interview of the four finalists took place in London, at the Farmer's Club, prior to the presentation. The result was so close, the judges needed more time to make their final choice. Edward Sutton was surprised, but delighted, to have won. He was brought up on a dairy farm in Cheshire and started helping out with the 270-cow pedigree Holstein Friesian herd from a very early age. He is studying for a BSc (Hons) in agriculture at Harper Adams University. With the enterprise at home set for expansion, that is where Edward sees his future.
