Before joining NIOSH, Brune worked at Consol Energy for 12 years, where he was assistant mine superintendent, manager of engineering services, manager of information systems and technology and manager of business process improvement. Since his retirement from GPU Energy as manager of coal mines, he has been active in finding ways to establish a national coal resource database that can be used in the establishment of an accurate, reliable national energy policy. Chugh's major scholastic awards include departmental outstanding teacher awards; a Professor of the Year Award from the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association; invited professorships in United States, India, Brazil, China and Singapore; adjunct professorship at the Indian School of Mines; a Fulbright Fellowship and international linkages programs with Poland, China, Brazil and India.
