The most spectacular motor racing I have seen, bar none, is the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship (www. themastersseries.com), specifically the pre-66 touring cars. I am always in awe at this spectacle of Minis dicing with huge American Ford Galaxies, Mustangs, Falcons and old European favourites like Lotus Cortinas, BMWs and Alfa Romeos. I was amazed to find that my old go-karting buddy Endaf Owens has moved from Mini Miglias to this very championship. What's even more interesting is the story behind his historic race car. It all started back in 1965 when Endaf's father Danny bought a 1963 1071cc Morris Cooper S for rallying. In the 1960s circuit racing was not very popular in Wales, due to the lack of circuits, but what was, and still is, popular is rallying. And this is how Danny spent 1968 to 1971. He even became Welsh Champion. "I had some great times and some great wins in that car," recalls Danny.
