The 2009 Gaydon Mini Festival was, thankfully, blessed with glorious sunshine on the Saturday afternoon. If it hadn't been I doubt I would ever have seen a real Mini Beach Car in the 'metal', let alone have the honour of riding in one and writing about it for MiniWorld. Owner, Bob Hart, had decided to take it along to Gaydon for one of its very rare outings, bringing it out of retirement for Mini's 50th year.rnSo how did Bob Hart come to own this incredible Mini? "My father bought it from Austin. He worked in the Experimental Department and was friendly with Issigonis. When Leyland took over, in about '68, they started to get rid of a lot of stuff that they thought was scrap and surplus. Dad was allowed to buy that one. We've had it since November 1968. It's only done 6,700 miles now." Most of the time it has sat in their garage, with a few outings for special occasions: "We used it for my wedding, my daughter's wedding, my son's wedding, and my wife's sister used it as well.
