Lancashire CC is taking radical action to shore up its ￡3bn pension fund, casting aside standard investment consulting in favour of recruiting a freelance 'panel' of specialists tasked with improving financial returns.The county has announced it will ditch its use of standard investment consultants following a three-yearly valuation of its staff retirement fund - due to be made public later this summer. Valuations for all Local Government Pension Scheme funds this year will reveal billions of pounds of new town hall liabilities, following the recession.
