Many big Broadway productions start with a preview run in another city to gauge audience reactions, tweak the script and production, and thereby guarantee a big hit with critics and audiences when the show opens on the Great White Way. This is exactly how Volkswagen has always treated its biggest production, the Golf, by perfecting it in Europe for at least a season before releasing it to the toughest American critics. This November, the popular hatch (it accounts for one-eighth of global VW sales and one-quarter of European deliveries) will enter its preview run in Europe before lighting up marquees Stateside during the first half of 2014, probably as a '15 model. We got a sneak peek at its preview run, and the seventh-gen Golf story is pretty compelling. Many plot elements and characters will change in the next year and a half, and for now, the producers are loath to elaborate on such plans. Here's what we know.
