The newest and smallest Pontiac-available early next year-is an affordable five-door hatchback that delivers more highway mileage and range than most of its competitors. Powered by a spunky Ecotec 1.6-liter engine and a choice of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, the G3 scores an estimated 34 mpg on the EPA's highway-mileage test. Dual overhead cams with variable valve timing help deliver outstanding efficiency and 106 horsepower. The G3 is fully equipped with gear that others leave out, such as OnStar, an MP3 input jack, available steering-wheel audio controls, and a rear spoiler.
