President Gerald Ford, the 38th President of the United States who recently died at the age of 93, was interested in finding the truth behind the UFO mystery. When Dr. J. Allen Hynek issued his infamous 'swamp gas' explanation for the 1966 mass sightings in Michigan, then Congressman Ford came to the aid of the American Public by stating in a letter to the House Armed Services committee and the House Science and Astronautics Committee: In the firm belief that the American public deserves a better explanation than that thus far given by the Air Force, I strongly recommend that there be a committee investigation of the UFO phenomena.
