The Race Card: An Interactive Tool for Teaching Multiculturalism

摘要

The Race Card provides both educators and students with an opportunity to confront whiteness and its effects on those whom white supremacy deems as "different" such as people of color, women, and the poor. This game encourages students to discuss how whiteness is maintained through the intersectionality of oppressions (Collins, 2000), for example, white promotion of interethnic conflict (Allen, 2004). Students can also explore the notion of how a "power-with" approach to political action can unite many different groups for social justice in a win-win scenario (Guinier & Torres, 2002). The game can be used with greups of students and challenges them to confront their own positions in the structure of whiteness.
