Guard Usage: Armor units have either the older M1A1, some of which have seen action in Iraq, or the completely rebuilt and upgraded M1A1 Abrams Integrated Management tank. Update: The Guard armor force—seven heavy brigades and three combined-arms battalions—is in the middle of a multiyear conversion to more advanced tanks. Most units will receive the M1A1 AIM. One brigade, the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, will use the digitized M1A2 System Enhancement Package, the most enhanced variant. But this plan could change.
