Three scientists are disputing the Pentagon's contention that the dust in Iraq and Afghanistan poses no health risk to troops exposed to it. The three were part of a team asked last year to review a Pentagon study from 2008 on the dust. They disputed the military's claim that the dust carried no risk, but the Pentagon said the panel's review supported its conclusion. The scientists told USA Today last month that the Defense Department was mischaracterizing their review results. "It's a bit disappointing when they know that, realistically, the data does not support that conclusion," said Philip Hopke, a scientist at Clarkson University in New York.
