Combatant and major command officials offered a proposal to reduce the number of strategic airlift aircraft in the Air Force to the Senate Armed Services subcommittee on seapower during a session July 13. Gen. Raymond Johns, the commander of Air Mobility Command com- mander, and Gen. Duncan McNabb, the commander of U. S. Transportation Command, supported an Air Force request to lower the requirement of C-17 Globemaster III, C-5A Galaxy and C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft from 316 to 301 aircraft.
