Amid a growing number of soldiers abusing prescription drugs, the Army now says it will take disciplinary action against anyone misusing restricted drugs, the Associated Press reported last month. The service has already limited the use of certain painkillers to just 30-day prescriptions. A soldier found using the drugs six months after they have been prescribed could be disciplined. The drugs in question are Schedule II controlled substances, which include narcotics, opiates and amphetamines, the wire service reported. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, more than 50 percent of Afghanistan and Iraq veterans deal with pain issues when they leave the service, the wire service reported.
