Each year,the Friends offer two significant awards to those working with, or supporting, the National Library. The aim of these is to assist the ongoing work of Library staff and to acknowledge outstanding achievement. The first award is the annual Friends Medal. It is awarded to a Friend, a volunteer, or a Library staff member for a significant contribution to the Library. Our most recent recipient is Elizabeth Kennedy, who received the medal at the Friends Annual General Meeting in November 2013. Elizabeth has contributed significantly to the work of the Library over many years, both as a volunteer and as a member of the Friends Committee. She has generously given her time as a volunteer at the Library since 2006, working variously as an exhibition guide and as a behind-the-scenes guide. Elizabeth was a valuable member of the Friends Committee in 2008 (Deputy Chair), 2009 (Deputy Chair), 2010 (Chair), 2012 and 2013.
