A rock concert with its heaving, screaming crowd and matt-haired musicians is not necessarily where you would expect to find National Library of Australia staff hard at work. Nor is the fume-laden atmosphere of the Lexmark Indy 300 motor race on the Gold Coast. Yet these are just two of the hundreds of places where the Library's photographers can be found documenting Australian life. The Library has been creating-and breaking-first impressions for more than 40 years. Since moving into its landmark building in Canberra, its imposing foyer and wooden desks have witnessed the early adoption of technology and today the soft clack-clack of laptop keys in reading rooms is a reminder that the digital age has long revolutionised the way libraries and their users do business.
