A generous loan from businessman Mr Kerry Stokes AC of four rare VOC (Verenigde Oost-lndische Compagnie) navigational charts, the only such charts in Australian hands, was celebrated on 13 August 2009 at the National Library of Australia. Created between 1725 and 1740, the charts were issued to ships bound for the East Indies by the Dutch United East India Company, along with other charts and instruments. At the handover were Mr Kerry Stokes AC, Federal Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, the Hon Peter Carrett AM MP, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, the Hon Warwick Smith AM, Sir James Cobbo AC CVO, Director-General Jan Fullerton AO and other special guests.
