As the two worldwide military blocks confrontation threat vanished in the nineties, the world's fleets met new challenges. The Polish Navy was no exception. Paradoxically, it was not easy for one of the typical Baltic littoral fleets to achieve littoral warfare demands which emerged within new military objectives. This was because the Polish Navy, with great number of minesweepers, landing ships, anti-submarine vessels and FAC's had very limited capabilities of projecting its power into littorals outside the Baltic Sea. In this situation deep restructuring of the navy was a case of absolute necessity.
