Since its inception in 1949, NATO has constantly adapted to the shifting Euro-Atlantic and international security context. Change and transformation have been key ingredients in preserving the Alliance's relevance for the security of its members. Nowadays, NATO is more than an Alliance of collective solidarity and defence of its members. It is also an international security provider. As current threats are crossing boundaries, NATO's efforts to counter them can no longer be confined to the territory of the Allies.
