摘要

The Netherlands at times had to defend their relatively prosperous territory; our (military) history bears witness to that. During and after the Second World War we came to the conclusion that this could best be done in alliance with others. The Netherlands was one of the founding fathers of NATO and the Alliance has been a cornerstone of Dutch security policy ever since. Furthermore, we've always realised that our security can not be set apart from international stability and the rule of law, a fact that is the more poignant in 'the global village'. For that reason, the Netherlands participates actively in crisis response operations all over the world to enhance international stability. Also, with the available resources of manpower and materiel, we support our civil authorities in case of need in the homeland.
