The NATO Summit held in Istanbul on June 28-29, 2004 was an important milestone in the history of the Alliance. Hosted in the city which serves as a bridge between East and West, in an era where talk of a "clash of civilizations" abound, the Istanbul Summit brought together Allies and Partners from 45 countries for critical discussions on topics ranging from operational capabilities to NATO's outreach beyond the traditional Euro-Atlantic area.
