The region of West China is very fragile in terms of ecological system, afflicted with serious soil erosion and desertification. It has been suffering from frequent natural disasters, and is geographically far away from the current "central belt of economic development in China". Due to remoteness and high transportation cost, the natural resources in West China have been disadvantageous and less competitive in price.
