Founded in 1905 as a modest medical school, the National University of Singapore (NUS) has since developed into a research-intensive institution that is consistently ranked among the world's top universities. With leading researchers and state-of-the-art facilities, NUS aspires to produce world-class research based on a broad definition of research excellence. The university consists of 26 university-level research institutes and centres along with 16 faculties and schools that together form a dynamic network for education and research. NUS hosts three of Singapore's five Research Centres of Excellence - those specializing in quantum technologies, cancer science and mechanobiology - and is a partner in another Research Centre of Excellence, which draws on NUS's strengths in the life sciences and sustainability research.
