On 24 April, it will be 25 years since the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, into low-Earth orbit aboard the space shuttle Discovery. As well as revolutionizing astrophysics, the first major optical observatory in space -built by NASA with contributions from the European Space Agency (ESA) - has brought the excitement of scientific discovery into millions of homes. Ask people to name a telescope and most will probably say "Hubble."
