The Sphelar~® is a spherical solar cell developed by the Kyosemi Corporation. Its name is a registered trademark, coined by combining parts of the words "sphere" and "solar." Taira said that the product's most important feature is the fact that the surface which receives sunlight has a spherical form. Each Sphelar is a silicon sphere 1-2mm in size, with electrodes on the top and bottom. In the natural world, light does not strike objects in a uniform way, and the position of the sun is always moving.
