Kathy Kennedy faced a decision six months into her PhD. Having spent time in various labs studying parasitic liver flukes and the intestinal bacterium Clostridium difficile, she had to choose where to spend the next three-and-a-half years while completing her thesis. The rotations helped her not only to make an educated decision about which research group to join, but also to meet colleagues and learn extra skills.
