The US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management released a draft on 4 May of rules that would require companies to disclose the chemicals they use in hydraulic fracturing or Tracking', which involves pumping fluid into rocks to release natural gas and oil. The technique has provoked public protest, in part because of fears that chemicals used in the process could pollute ground water.
