摘要

The demographic of global populations is changing more rapidly than ever in the 21st century. Improved health and longevity have altered demographic trends dramatically, reflecting advances in reducing disease and mortality and leading to a real extension of life expectancy1. The World Health Organization estimated that there were 650 million senior citizens in 2007 and the figure is predicted to triple in the next 50 years with about 80% of the elderly population living in developing countries.
