摘要

What attracted you to climate research? After my BA in physics at Rice University in Houston, I was sick of school. I worked for an investment bank on Wall Street for two years before realizing that I wasn't motivated by money - instead, I wanted to work on interesting problems. My father, an academic, suggested that the environment was going to be rife with difficulties in the future. Scientists had just discovered the ozone hole, so I worked on stratospheric ozone at the University of Maryland in College Park until the mid-1990s, when it was clear that the problem was essentially solved by the Montreal Protocol - the international agreement banning ozone-depleting chemicals.
