Interdisciplinary and international, the University of Tokyo adapts to a sea of change.rnOver the past decade the Japanese government has strived to make its universities more independent, more internationally competitive, and more focused in their mission to advance research while educating the next generation of scientists. The University of Tokyo continues to set the pace, leading many of the initiatives implemented to achieve these goals. Here we introduce the University of Tokyo's World Premier Institute, one of only five in Japan, and 4 of the 21 Global Centers of Excellence (GCOE) that the university leads or collaborates on.
