BGI goes global: Chinese genome-sequencing organization the BGI is setting up a European branch in Copenhagen. On 17 May, the institute signed an agreement that it would invest US$10 million in its first year there, to establish a high-throughput sequencing platform. The BGI's headquarters, in the southern Chinese metropolisrnof Shenzhen, has the largest sequencing capacity in the world (see Nature 464,22-24; 2010). Three weeks earlier, the BGI had announced the founding of a US arm, BGI Americas, to be based in Boston, Massachusetts.
