摘要

Photonic lattices are materials specially designed to cage light. By shaking the mesh of the cage, we can see how light, initially passing freely, finds its room for manoeuvre progressively restricted. Unchecked, light's stamina as a messenger is unsurpassed. In outer space, with no scattering medium, it travels for billions of years and allows us to glimpse deep into the Universe's antiquity. In the past few decades, it has become apparent that light can also be confined within very small spaces.
