While attending a lecture by a professor who had founded a drug company, Peter Kolchinsky had an idea that rerouted his career. After the talk, Kolchinsky helped found the Harvard Biotech Club, to let students and postdocs learn more about the industry. Every few weeks, the club hosted a different speaker. "By the time I graduated," Kolchinsky recalls, "I had met dozens of executives, venture capitalists, attorneys and entrepreneurs." Instead of going on to a postdoc after completing his PhD in virology, Kolchinsky co-founded RA Capital Management, a biotech investment company.
