Microarrays are making a tremendous impact from basic research to drug discovery and development, as well as in agriculture and health sciences. DNA microarrays enable simultaneous monitoring of multiples of genes up to entire genomes on a single chip in a single day. As proteomic research is becoming more important it is starting to push protein microarrays beyond the fringe. The demands of microarrays - higher throughput and more rapid, sensitive and reproducible results - are being met by evolving technologies including instrumentation and software.
