Consider the following data points: Of all other metropolitan areas in the United States, New York City 1. Has the largest concentration of hospitals 2. Has the most top-ranked medical centers 3. Trains more MDs 4. Has triple the number of science and healthcare workers 5. Has the highest concentration of science students and postdocs 6. Is home to institutions that 6.1 Grant more Ph.D.s in life science than 48 states 6.2 Is virtually tied with Boston ― and far ahead of any other urban center ― in most National Institute of Health grants received 6.3 Is tied with Boston for having the top biology Ph.D. program rankings.
