IN these fiscally tight times, NASA has asked astronomers only to propose new missions that are at least an order of magnitude better than previous satellites. The high-energy γ-ray response to this challenge is called GLAST, the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope, the scientific case for which was presented at a meeting last month.
