BRITISH boxing killed another young man, a young Scot called James Murray (25), at Glasgow over the weekend. On this occasion, the tragedy was marred by a riot of Murray's supporters in the crowd, apparently angry that their man had been robbed of theBritish bantamweight title by his collapse less than half a minute before the fight was due to end. There have been suggestions that the riot delayed Murray's arrival at hospital, but there is no confirmation of that. It is unlikely that more speedy attention would have saved his life, from a ruptured vein in the brain. Meanwhile, everybody connected with the prizefight, from those who had arranged the occasion ("promoters") to Murray's manager and his opponent, has expressed regret.
