Sunk in an heroic action against superior Japanese forces, the USS Samuel B. Roberts DE-413 embodies the fighting spirit of the US Navy. 175 of these highly successful destroyers were built between 1942 and 1944. A number them also served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The four-piper USS WARD sunk the first enemy vessel in WWII - a midget sub off Pearl Harbor on the morning of the attack. USS ARLEIGH BURKE is the class leader of our Navy's guided missile destroyer fleet, featuring the very sophisticated AEGIS radar system.
