摘要

The Baltic Sea, and areas providing access to and from it, constitute a geostrategic arena that today is a venue for significant competition at sea between naval forces. Western navies - from both NATO allies and partners - are increasingly focused on maritime activity in and around this region. Many share a growing sense of concern over growing insecurity there.Given the security challenges around the Baltic Sea itself and the access routes from the North Sea via the Kattegat/Skagerrak Straits, Sweden holds a central strategic position. Given this position, the Royal Swedish Navy (RSwN) provides pivotal presence in supporting national and international security in and around the Baltic region. The growing international focus on the region's instability is reflected in the RSwN's own prioritisation of operations there.
