Icebreakers have now reached the North Pole thanks to powerfull engines and favorable ice conditions.Twenty years earlier the first nuclear submarines reached the Pole thanks to their autonomy and to new navigation and localization equipments. Afterwards they were able to establish a good chart of the Arctic Ocean. Inhabited drifting stations mostly soviet did complement these data with hydrometeorological informations ; nowadays there are a number of automatic data buoys relayed by satellites and we have now a good picture of the average speed of ice drift in the whole arctic ocean.%Quelques brise-glace ont maintenant réussi à atteindre le Pôle Nord géographique grâce à un appareil propulsif puissant et à des conditions de glace favorables. Vingt ans auparavant, les premiers sous-marins nucléaires avaient déj╚? atteint le pôle grâce à leur autonomie et au développement de technologies nouvelles de navigation et de repérage ; ensuite, ces sous-marins ont sillonné l'Océan Arctique, établissant une bathymétrie pratiquement inconnue en 1950. Puis des stations dérivantes habitées et des stations automatiques nous ont fourni un bon schéma de la dérive moyenne des glaces ainsi que de l'océanographie et du climat de cette région.
