摘要

Digital cellular telephone services, standardized throughout Japan, are currently being rendered by the full-rate system since 1994. In addition, half-rate system specifications have been standardized as a new-generation speech coding system. Amid these movements, NEC has developed a full-rate/half-rate dual mode speech CODEC unit for use in the digital cellular base station system. What follows below is an outline of the full-rate and half-rate speech coding systems, with an introductory description of the recently developed speech CODEC unit.
